Take on American Idol sends message on Meth (Billings Gazette)

• Rimrock Opera has been taking educational outreach shows to regional and local schools since 2000, American Opera Idol will tour area schools with a host, pianist, contestants, and judges. Additional contestants and judges will be chosen from each school ahead of time. Broadway and opera songs will be performed. The show is targeted for students in Junior and Senior High Schools

• Through a cleverly written musical theater show, combining a vocal competition with a contestant who discusses a family member who suffers from methamphetamine addiction, American Opera Idol's script includes musical selections from popular Broadway and opera melodies. Backstage scenes include one contestant befriending another about the problems of meth addiction. The audience will learn about meth and its addictive qualities through the backstage scenes.

• All participating schools will receive a study guide in advance which is also available online.

• The show itself will run 30 minutes long and allows 10 minutes for Questions and Answers.

• One singer from each school will perform in their school's performance.

• One Actor from each school will perform in their school's performance.

• Cost per school: $400.00
