
Operatic Competition Finalist

Chris Johnson
Christopher Johnson is currently a Masters student studying with Timothy Noble
at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. In his first year at Indiana,
he sang the role of Graf Dominik in Richard Strauss’s Arabella as well as
participated in a series of masterclasses focusing on lieder with British
pianist Roger Vignoles.
A native of Billings, Montana, Chirstopher received his B.A. in Music from
Montana State University-Bozeman in 2005. While at M.S.U. he was a winner of the
2004 Concerto/Aria Competition and received the Senior Award for outstanding
performer. He has also received honorable mention awards at the 2004 District
Metropolitan Opera Auditions as well as the 2005 Coeur d'Alene Symphony Young
Artist Competition.
In December 2006 Christopher was featured as the Baritone soloist in Handel’s
Messiah with the Billings Symphony His operatic roles have included the Sergeant
in Manon Lescaut and Samuel in Pirates of Penzance both with Intermountain
Opera, Bob in The Old Maid and the Thief with Rimrock Opera, Polyphemus in Acis
and Galtea with M.S.U. Opera Theater and Dulcamara in L’Elisir d’Amore with
Oberlin in Italy. This summer Christopher will sing the role of Billy Bigelow in
Carousel with Bay View Music Festival.
