A
Montana native and current resident of Billings, MT, soprano Carolyn
Jane Coefield has performed with several ensembles
including Portland Opera Works!, Portland SummerFest, Helena Symphony,
Astoria Music Festival, Bel Canto Northwest, Portland Opera Guild, and
The Illustrious Virginia City Players. Most Recently, Carolyn performed
the roles Papagena and 2nd Lady in the Portland Opera Works!
2006 production of The Magic Flute. During the summer of 2006
Carolyn sang the role of Giannetta in the Portland SummerFest Concert
Production of L’Elisir D’amore.
During
the spring season of 2005, Ms. Coefield joined Portland Opera Works!
The apprentice and outreach program affiliated with Portland Opera. She
performed the role of the Mother in Hansel and Gretel.
After
her successful debut with the Helena Symphony Chorale, Ms. Coefield
returned as a guest artist to make her symphonic debut with the Helena
Symphony Orchestra & Chorale performing Beethoven's Ninth
Symphony for the inaugural performance of new Music Director Allan
R. Scott. She returned to Helena in March 2005, to sing the role of
Johanna in a semi-staged production of Sweeney Todd. In December
2004, she was featured as the soprano soloist in the Billings Messiah
Festival.
Ms.
Coefield has performed at the International Music Festival as a member
of the Bach Academy Festival Ensemble in Stuttgart, Germany and
throughout Greece with renowned Bach scholar and conductor Helmut
Rilling. In addition to an active recital career, Ms. Coefield
has performed the roles of "Musetta" in Puccini's La Bohéme,
"Pamina" in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, and "The Countess" in
Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro

Theater
credits include roles in Nunsense, As Is, Falsettos, Two by
Two, Cabaret, The Music Man, and Godspell. She spent two
seasons working with The Illustrious Virginia City Players, a summer
stock melodrama and olio company, where she performed roles such as
Becky in Tom Sawyer, the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland,
and Virginia in The Canterbury Ghost.
Ms.
Coefield received her B.A. in Music at Rocky Mountain College. She then
earned her Master of Music in vocal performance at Portland State
University where she studied with Ruth Dobson. She has received
additional training in master classes with Shirlee Emmons, Marilyn
Horne, Ellen Faull, Dorothy Danner, Christopher Mattaliano, Paul Sperry,
and Jerome Hines. She has returned to Rocky as adjunct vocal faculty.
Students of Miss Coefield’s are in the chorus of this production.
Carolyn’s recent performances include Vivaldi’s Gloria and the
Carmina Burana with the Helena Chamber Singers in December 2007 and
May 2008, respectively. Giannetta marks Miss Coefield’s stage debut with
Rimrock Opera Company in March 2008.
