Jay Gardner
Jay Gardner continues to prove himself as a
versatile singing actor at home in a variety of
genres. The Dallas Morning News has written, “Jay
Gardner raises the hair on the back of ournecks
with a clarion tenor deployed with rare taste.” Jay
performs though out the Dallas/Ft.Worth area and
the midwest and is familiar to audiences of opera,
cabaret and musical theater.
Highlights include
the role of Canio in Pagliacci with Kansas Concert
Opera, the Second Jew in Salome and the Second
Noble in Lohengrin, both with The Dallas Opera. With
the MarjorieLawrence Opera Theatre he has played
Romeo in Romeo et Juliette and Sam Polk in
Susannah.
In addition he has appeared as Dr. Blind in Die
Fledermaus, The First Armed Guard in The Magic
Flute and has sung with the Dallas Opera Chorus for
five seasons.
Jay’s solo concert appearances
include the Carnegie Hall premier of Sing for the
Cure commissioned by the Susan G. Komen
Foundation and Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde with
theUniversity of North Texas Symphony Orchestra.
Other performances include the world premier at
the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas, Texas of The
Star of David, J.S. Bach’s St. JohnPassion,
Handel’s Messiah, the Mozart Requiem, the Saint
Saens Christmas Oratorio and the Haydn
Paukenmesse. Jay has also appeared at various summer
music festivals including Opera aOrvieto, The
Casalmaggiore Chamber Music Festival and the Summer
Academy for the Vocal Arts in Chiari, Italy. As a
performer and stage director, Jay has presented The
Best of Broadway and Bernstein on Broadway, both
at the Crested Butte Music Festival and directed the
musical for Oh, Look Performing
Arts Center.
Also active on the musical theater
stage, Jay has been featured in Side by Side by
Sondheim with Circle Theater, Joseph and the
Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Plano Repertory
Theater, Into the Woods at Southern Illinois
Repertory Theater, and Evita, Brigadoon and the
regional premier of Alan Menken and Tim Rice’s
King David at Lyric Stage. For Oh, Look Performing
Arts Center Jay has played Ernst Ludwig in
Cabaret, the Beadle Bamford in Sweeney Todd and his
favorite role, the voice of Audrey II in Little Shop
of Horrors. Jay is currently pursuing thedegree
of Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of North
Texas where he studies with Dr.Steven Austin.
